Spotlight UB Performing Arts Series

Spotlight UB is pleased to present a season of theatrical productions, movies, comedy, concerts and readings in the Student Center's fifth floor, acoustically-designed Performing Arts Theater. The diversified programming spans the arts from jazz pianists to poetry, dramatic performance to stand up comedy.

Upcoming Events:

Jazz Pianist Concert Series co-produced with An die Musik:  James Weidman, November 13, 8pm.  James Weidman is one of the best jazz accompanists in the world, having played and recorded with Max Roach, Woody Herman, Archie Shepp, James Moody, Slide Hampton and blues diva Dakota Staton.   Tickets are available online at www.etix.com and will be available an hour preshow.  Tickets are $10 students and $20 general.

 AIDS Awareness Day, Tuesday, December 1 events:

  • AIDS Name Project Quilt panels hung in the SC lobby
  • silent art auction, Bogomolny Room, noon to 6pm.  Bidding results announced at 6:30pm with light reception
  • Baltimore Men's Chorus holiday concert, free of charge, all suggested donations to Chase Brexton, concert kicked off by Chase Brexton CEO

Aspen Ensemble, Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 8pm. Aspen Ensemble of Nadine Asin, David Perry, Victoria Chiang, Michael Mermagen, and Rita Sloan will perform a program of Beethoven, Bohuslav Martinu, and Brahms.  Tickets $20 students and seniiors and $25 general admission and are available online at www.etix.com

  • For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, choreopoem by Ntozke Shange, directed by Nicolle McQueen and Kimberley Lynne with choreography by Lisa Mion, February 18-19, 8pm.  
  • African American Arts Festival, February 25-26, once again featuring Abu the Flutemaker and Lafayette Gilchrist and the New Volcanoes on Thursday, February 25 and Lenneal Henderson's Thurgood Marshall one man show and the Visions Band on Friday, February 26
  • Poulenc Trio www.poulenctrio.com with Anthony McGill, March 26, co-produced with An die Musik
  • Aspen Ensemble, April 14, 8pm, will perform a program of Schubert, Laura Schewendinger, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Brahms.
  • Classical pianist Robert Jordan, May 2, 2010, 4pm

 Purchase tickets to Student Center Performing Arts Theater events via www.etix.com  -- search under University of Baltimore. As with all online ticketing services, ETIX will charge a minimal processing fee.

Parking for Spotlight events is available for patrons in the UB Maryland Avenue garage at Maryland and Biddle for $4 with a chaser ticket. The chaser tickets are available at the Spotlight box office at the event.  Please be aware of Artscape street closings during the week of July 17.

If any audience members require an event to be interpreted for the deaf, please email spotlightub@ubalt.edu with that request.  Requests can only be honored at two weeks prior to performance.
